Electricity Service
The major electric utility service in Allen County is Indiana Michigan Power (I&M). Their regional office is located in Fort Wayne. Some areas are served by Northeastern REMC, United REMC or Paulding Putnam Electric.
Natural Gas Service
Natural gas is supplied in the Fort Wayne area by Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO), which has an interconnected system supplied by five gas pipelines with long-term contracts.
Local service is also provided in areas of Allen
County by Northern
Fuel & Light Company (NIFL). Both NIPSCO and NIFL are
subsidiaries of NiSource,
Inc.
Telecommunications Service
Telecommunications service in Allen County is provided by Verizon, CenturyTel, Indiana
Data Center, Choice
One Communications, US
Signal and INdigital telecom. All vendors carry the latest in technology up to
- and including fiber networks. There is the
potential for redundancy in the network for all
locations.
Comcast offers digital cable TV and voice over Internet service to Allen
County. The company also provides high
speed internet connections via cable modems
using a service called Comcast@home.
Municipal Water Service
About 70% of the population of Allen County is served by Fort Wayne City Utilities, which is the largest municipally-owned water utility in Indiana. Fort Wayne draws its water from the St.Joseph River. The City's two reservoirs have a capacity of over two billion gallons of water. The daily treatment capacity is 72 million gpd, with an annual average of 29.02 million gpd or 43% of capacity.
Municipal Sewer Service
Fort
Wayne City Utilities is also a major provider of sanitary sewer facilities for both the City and County. The capacity of the regional treatment is 60 million gallons per day. Average pumpage is 43 million gallons per day.
Trash Service
The City of Fort Wayne offers full garbage and trash service for all residents. Businesses and residents outside the city limits must arrange private service.
