Insurance company to construct new addition; invests $5.2 million

Fort Wayne, Ind. (September 21, 2009) — Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company announced today that it is expanding its Fort Wayne operations. The company will construct a building addition at its 6400 Brotherhood Way location. Project construction will begin October 2009 and is scheduled for completion August 2010.

Brotherhood Mutual provides insurance exclusively to churches and related ministries and was recently named to Ward Group’s list of the top 50 property and casualty insurance companies. “We’re excited that this expansion will allow us to serve more church and ministry customers across the country,” said Mark Robison, chairman and president of Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company. “Indiana has been our home since the beginning and our company’s success was built on the hard work and dedication of the employees who live here.”

The company currently occupies a two-story 63,370 sq. ft. office building and will construct 26,000 sq. ft. of office space to be attached to the existing building. Brotherhood Mutual employs about 260 full and part-time employees and expects to add 64 new positions over the next two years.

“Great companies like Brotherhood Mutual are proving that Indiana is the right place to grow business in a tough economic climate,” said Governor Mitch Daniels. “We’re happy that this company has decided to expand locally and expand its history of growing and creating jobs in Fort Wayne.”

The Fort Wayne Common Council will consider phasing in taxes associated with the project. Brotherhood Mutual could save approximately $563,365 on real and personal property taxes over a ten year period, as well as a $65,000 grant from the City of Fort Wayne. The company is also eligible for $25,000 in recruitment and assessment services, $75,000 in job-specific training and $10,000 in computer training services from WorkOne Northeast. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) will provide $700,000 in Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) tax credits and $100,000 from the Skills Enhancement Fund (SEF).

“Brotherhood Mutual has proven its sustainability even in tough economic times and continues to provide opportunities to citizens of the City of Fort Wayne,” said Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry. “It’s wonderful to see a company with such a long, rich history continue to succeed and grow in our community.”
