New Haven, Ind. (March 4, 2010) — Central States Enterprises has recently announced that it will expand its New Haven facility, located at 356 Hartzell Road. The company, which specializes in grain storage and marketing, will invest $3.3 million and add two new jobs. Project completion is scheduled for October 2010.
Central States was founded in 1974, and has locations in both Florida and Indiana. “New Haven is home to much of our infrastructure, which is what helped make this location the right choice for this project,” said John Stanford, vice president of Indiana operations for Central States. “The facility’s proximity to the East-West and North-South Mainline of the Norfolk Southern Railroad allows us to reach a significant amount of our customer base, making this investment essential to the continued success of our company.”
The company has been located in New Haven for the last 36 years and has a history of expanding and investing in the community. In 2006, Central States constructed two concrete silos, which added 1.3 million bushels to its storage capacity. As a result of its current project, the company will add another concrete grain storage silo, along with attendant equipment that will fill and empty the silo. Central States will invest an estimated $2.1 million on real estate improvements and $1.2 million on manufacturing equipment for the project.
“Central States Enterprises’ investment is essential to sustain positive economic growth in the City of New Haven,” stated Mayor Terry McDonald. “Not only will the company invest over $3 million into the area, but they will also retain and create high quality jobs for our local workforce.”
Central States has requested that taxes on the project be phased in over time. The company could realize $219,600 in real estate and $46,500 in equipment tax savings over a seven year period if the request is approved by the New Haven City Council. The company’s tax abatement request will be voted on at the March 9 New Haven City Council meeting.
