Calico Precision Molding Investing over $330,000; Adding 20 New Jobs

Fort Wayne, Ind. (May 28, 2008) — Calico Precision Molding, LLC, a plastic and rubber custom injection molder of products used in automotive, aerospace, military and commercial markets, is investing over $330,000 in building improvements and new equipment at its 1211 Progress Road location in Fort Wayne. The equipment will create a faster, more efficient manufacturing process and will also allow the company to further diversify its product offerings. Calico currently employs 46 and plans to add up to 20 new employees by the spring of 2009. The project is expected to be completed by the end of June 2008.

“Our business has grown to the point of needing this additional capacity,” said Calvin Shannon, Jr., president of Calico Precision Molding. “We’ve worked hard to position our company to offer to our valued customers quality products in a very cost effective manner. This expansion project will allow us to continue down that path.”

The Fort Wayne Common Council is now considering the company’s request to phase in real and personal property taxes associated with the project. Taxes saved could total $26,625 over ten (10) years while taxes to be paid during the phase-in could total $27,822. Over $169,000 will be invested in the building and more than $163,000 will be spent on manufacturing, research & development, logistics and information technology equipment.

“Calvin and his team are to be congratulated for their success to date,” added Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry. “The City of Fort Wayne is proud to be home to Calico Precision Molding and we pledge our continued support so that together we realize many more years of success.”

In addition to the work of the city of Fort Wayne, with and through the Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) Northeast Regional Office and the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (through WorkOne Northeast) are pursuing employee training assistance by matching available state programs to Calico’s needs. That work is ongoing at this time.
