Company creates new manufacturing site in Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne, Ind. (October 8, 2009) — Superior Essex has announced they will begin operations in a new, state of the art manufacturing facility co-located with their primary mid-west distribution center at 3405 Meyer Road in Fort Wayne. As operations are ramped up in this 80,000 square foot facility, production will be transitioned from its Clifton Park, N.Y. facility. In addition to the $1.3 million the company will invest in the project, they will create up to 15 new jobs by 2010.

The project follows an earlier expansion of the company’s distribution operations in Fort Wayne. “We believe this investment makes sense as part of our continuing effort to improve manufacturing processes, flow, and techniques. This will improve our quality, responsiveness, and capacity.” said Hank Pennington, Vice President and General Manager for Superior Essex. “With the commencement of this project, the affiliation between Superior Essex and the City of Fort Wayne continues to strengthen.”

Superior Essex is based out of Atlanta, Georgia and is one of the largest wire and cable manufacturers in the world. The company operates 24 manufacturing facilities in the United States and various countries, and employs more than 3,800 workers around the world.

“We know that staying competitive means making tough decisions and we’re glad Superior Essex chose Fort Wayne as the place to focus this operation,” said Governor Mitch Daniels. “This company is a long-time Indiana citizen that continues to grow and create new jobs for Hoosiers.”

The Fort Wayne Common Council will consider phasing in taxes associated with this project. Superior Essex could save $247,289 on real and personal property taxes over ten years, as well as a $64,000 grant from the City of Fort Wayne. The company is also eligible for $75,000 in job-specific training, $25,000 in recruitment and assessment services and $15,000 in computer training from WorkOne Northeast. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) will provide $400,000 in Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) tax credits and $55,000 from the Skills Enhancement Fund.

“This project is a sign of the reliability and confidence Superior Essex has shown in the City of Fort Wayne,” stated Mayor Tom Henry. “I commend Superior Essex for offering opportunities to area residents at a time when it is most needed.”
